A letter to my future daughterA Poem by AkanshaA letter that I wish my mother had written to me.The world is a beautiful place, And so are you. So do not let anyone make you feel any less. Tie your mane or let the wind make it unkempt. Treasure your body, skinny or curvy. Wear your favorite pair of shorts or the old saree you love, But never let the people mold your choices, Not even me or your father. Never let gender define you nor allow it to overpower you. And remember, good and evil comes in all shapes, sizes and genders. Always do what your heart says, And do it unapologetically. Though life will be unfair at times, But make sure it doesn’t make you unkind. Do not wear your heart on your sleeve, For it will not let you soar high. But cry as much as you need, I promise it will not make you look less strong. And pull yourself together as soon as it is done. Success may not always kiss your feet, So bite the dust but do not let the dust bite you. There will be few people close to your heart, the ones with whom you will be your own true self without the fear of being judged. Although they might be miles apart, never dare to forget them. I will be there for you till my last breath, And that last breath may come in a flash. But do not be traumatized since death too is a part of life. You may have people around you all the time, But when you feel you are breaking on some nights, and life does not seems to make any sense, Expect none by your side, For everyone has their own demons to fight. If cupid comes your way, and your love is reciprocates, Express it as much as you can. Be grateful for everything they do for you, Because you may not get second chance. Give them all you have, selflessly and unconditionally. But since everything starts with you, so should love, Love yourself first, for at the end of the day you will be your own hero.
