Spring and AutumnA Poem by aj miltonallegoricalLeaves are turning, colours burning Dropping like a golden rain He looks for Spring, but she’s not there She has no idea how well he knows her She doesn't know how much he cares In another time and another place Spring’s sweet nature would sustain him His one and only, without compare He dared to hope but time defeats them But he can't tell her… life’s not fair A new season arrives to entice Winter holds her in his grasp Much darker days her price to pay His cold beauty turns her warmth to ice Autumn's leaves of laughter swept away Soon Autumn will be just an afterthought A footnote on a page of life His own troubles haunt his every day But her warm wit no longer soothes his strife He raises his head and seeks the sun He gazes into past and future Longing for her gentle touch More for her, than for himself He wishes she could be complete But dark Winter stands between them So will Spring and Autumn ever meet? © 2018 aj miltonReviews
