When Walls are Welcome

When Walls are Welcome

A Poem by Andrew John

I have a shadow on the wall as company -
a shadow on the wall that makes me think
of a face that I know,
a landscape that I know or anything else that I know.
Yes, it is a shape that sits upon the wall.

It becomes more and more familiar.
But I am looking at a shadow on the wall,
and it is company because
I do not have any.
Hello - and welcome!

This reminds me of "Patterns" by Simon and Garfunkel. And anything that reminds me of them...is highest on the charts with me.
When we see our own shadow, there might be six more weeks of loneliness to come, but at least the shadow can keep us company through that time.

Shadows on the wall, changing shapes. Being familiar. Better than no company at all. This is a lonely poem Andrew. I hope all is ok with you. You haven’t posted for a while. All the best. It reminded me of a bedsit I stayed in many years ago.
