Major Minor

Major Minor

A Poem by Andrew John

Has minor become major
as blood is to be found on my head, my hands, my feet? Has major become minor as I discover the blood is not mine but shed from above, from another? Has minor become major as I feel chastised, having to witness another's suffering, though not my own? Has major become minor as my happy heart ticks like a clock that clicks like that heart? Yet does major not persist as major, minor as minor? Am I not one of them, quaffing from a goblet in a common grave, sharing others' joy while feeling their suffering?

yes, at the same time we sympathize with the pain of others, there is a part of us that is gladdened by the fact we are not the ones suffering....I know the guilt of feeling this...
