Continually With You

Continually With You

A Poem by Aaron Jinks

Continually With You

I’m so glad that the sound of you breathing is the white noise I hear at night.

Every night.

I enjoy sights of you during lunch wearing the sun behind you like a spotlight,

every strand of hair outlined and detailed.

The wind chimes bang against one another while I take your hand to dance.

Sure, it’s our backyard and I can’t dance, but you can,

teach me; you’re the teacher I want.

I can smell the sandalwood from the candle lit in the crook of your neck.

This is every day.

Continually I see those eyes, I feel those mending hands and your heart with mine.

We dance.

We dance into the night, dance in the dark to the sounds of that old Coby.

My life, it’s drowning in this.

And I’m not casting out a life ring.
