She Will Come

She Will Come

A Poem by Aaron Jinks

She will come.
Those are words I need to hear.
I've always been what they call a "hopeless romantic."
There's nothing else I want in this world or any other world
In this dimension or any other dimension
In this universe or any other universe
In all of time and space more than love.

Than the radiance of her dawn breaking smile.
The sound of her saying the words "I love you."
The sight of the wind blowing her hair in front of her eyes
Her making me better in every way.
Because I know she'll be the only one who can

As I listen to the steady purr of the feline next to me
I hope
and I pray
and I call and shout to the stars in the sky
that the purr will be replaced
by the steady heartbeat
or the steady inhalation and exhalation
of her
under the covers
next to me
when she comes.
