Small Things

Small Things

A Poem by AJ Hawker
"

Small Things

"
I tried to make this house a home for you.
I tried to make things the best I can.
I tried to make you understand.
I thought that you loved me.

I tried to change the ways I think.
I tried to change the ways I am.
I tried to be a man you'd want to love.
I thought that you loved me.

I try to keep saving what you don't want.
I try to keep playing along with you.
I try to keep killing myself slowly.
I thought that you loved me.

I really like the repetition throughout this piece, a very artistic and creative poem.
The title symbolizes the entire meaning of the work, the speaker grasped for love through the "Small Things" in order to achieve the same love in return. I sense sorrow and heartbreak within the lines, your tone is well-rounded.

Battle of the sexes in a relationship. Where did I go wrong when I have tried everything. Some times we have to stop adapting to others and just be yourself. I mean to make a change when the relationship was build on who you were and not who you would change into. Nice work and it appears I could feel your pain. Thanks for sharing
