Eddies

Eddies

A Story by BlackFire

You tossed your shot back and grimaced as the alcohol went down your throat.
Laughing with your friends as shot glasses scattered on the table, A flash of white shown on the portrait of beauty I saw on your face. A smile everyone around you as come to know and love but I know the truth in your eyes. A slight touch caused an explosion of goosebumps as your hand grazed my arm asking for a smoke.
Trailing behind managing to keep up as you gracefully moved through the jungle crazed room.
The fall breeze took us by surprise, winters creeping up fast now leaving long warm summer nights behind like a memory of a summer dream barely holding on. A glow reflected on the sliding glass door from the lanterns placed around the deck. Your body looked almost perfectly etched into the glass standing next to me while my body was a colorful blur. I lit your cigarette, your hands cupping the flame protecting it as if it was a source of life, the hollowness I saw in your eyes earlier started to fill with a glow as you took a drag. I couldn't help but smile knowing I had you alone even though we were surround by others. I saw your eyes catch my grin and felt your hand grab mine as you pointed towards the party filled with strangers made friends for the night, and raised our hands to the sky as if we just conquered the world. Your voice, Like nothing I've ever heard filled my ears as you boldly stated "We own the night". As if this was all there was, and it was then I put together the broken pieces of her life together. This was home for her, finding herself in drunken laughs and sexual embraces. Drugs shared on the bathroom sink, wasted fights, beer pong champs and wasted false hopes over every other shot poured.
Everyone here for at least the night was just as broken and wrecked as she was.
In search of something more but come morning light it'll all be over and her?
She's off with some random she met the night before in search of other lost broken souls.
While I played it all in my mind I couldn't help but squeeze her hand into mine and pull her close, even if it was just for a night. I'll try my best to piece her back together.
