Last Goodbye

Last Goodbye

A Story by BlackFire

Glass shatters around me as I watched your bottle smash against the kitchen floor.
The pieces scattered across the linoleum like myself during the nights i'm lost in a drunken haze,
searching for your face at the bottom of every drink that touches my lips.
You stood by watching me destroy everything slowly, with every shot down a bullet to the chest.
There's no way I could have ever guessed it would end like this.
Standing in front of me, your face cold as stone. I can feel your eyes piercing into me but I can't meet your gaze.
I can't look at you because I know your eyes show you're just as broken as the bottle on the floor beneath my feet.
So I stand alone in the brokenness as you turn to leave me with it all.
My fingers shake as I try to pick up the pieces, cutting my palms leaving blood between the shards of glass.
I hear your voice break the silence in the room, telling me to stop it's over now.
I can't help but look up at you, everything a blur through my tears and washed out mascara running down my face.
In my mind I want to scream, yell at you saying I can fix it but nothing comes out, I can hardly breathe.
You're leaving now.
Hand on the door, I try to move towards you but the glass cuts my feet.
Every step, every move cuts deeper.
You're gone for real now. The doors clicked shut.
So I stay standing alone in this mess I've created.
The only words i can bear to utter cut me deeper than the glass on my hands..."I'm sorry.."
