Chapter Eleven-New BeginningsA Chapter by matpatChapter 11 Once again I found myself walking home covered in the black car grease. It was cold and cloudy, as if the world knew I was in a bad mood it followed my lead by being as dark and cold as I was. I stepped up the porch stairs and opened the door. “Carmen? Don?” I called into the open house, only science returned my call. I shut the door behind me as I stepped into the house. Something felt wrong. As if I were being watched. The house was empty as far as I could tell. A faint smell lingered in the air. The sickening smoke made me want to cough and get sick to my stomach. “Hello?” Something moved from behind me, I turned around before I knew what I was looking at I was hit in the head and fell into pitch blackness.
“Filthy rat.” Someone said. I heard a Nosie that sounded like somebody clipped another. Dim light fluttered through the window as I looked up I saw two black figures standing in front of me. One stood taller than the other. I tried to get up but my arms were tied behind me, what was going on? “Look at who’s awake.” The tall one sneered. “What are you doing here?” “Well I just saw it fit to come and get my weasel of a brother here.” He elbowed Don and I glared at him until he looked away shamefully. “And you cain’t see he don’t want to be near you?” The person leaned in close, his features becoming clearer. He had black soulless eyes that were nearly covered by his long red hair. He sucked in his cigarette the end grew red and he puffed it into my face, “Don ain’t exactly got a choice-he looked at Don-has he?” “Jack, you should go.” Don said. “Shut up!” Jack snarled as he took a threatening step towards him. Don backed away and looked down, not wanting to meet the stare of Jack. It reminded me of a puppy that had been kicked too many times. And suddenly this all seemed too familiar. I felt as if I had seen this, as if Don reminded me of someone…But who? Jack stood up straight and flicked the cigarette to the floor, “better just stay out of our way.” He told me. He grabbed Don by the collar of his shirt and shoved him towards the door, he opened it and pushed Don through. Don and I met eyes for just an instant before they stepped down the porch steps. They got into a car that was parked a way aways and sped off. I was left alone in the empty house with the door wide open. I pulled at the tight ropes on my wrists but it didn’t loosen. Soon another car squealed to a halt in front of the house. I looked over my shoulder, Carmen and Kirk got out of the car slamming the doors. “Carmen!” I shouted. “Milo?” she and Kirk stepped up the three steps and looked into the window. “What happened to you?” Kirk asked as he quickly walked in and started to untie my hands. “I ain’t got time to explain. I need to get the stray.” Once the rope was released I jumped up and ran out the door. “Milo!” Carmen shouted as I rushed past her. “Common Carmen!” I got into the car, kirk and Carmen followed behind me and got into the car. Before they even closed the door I stepped on the ignition. “What are you doing?” he asked. I didn’t answer, I knew now who Don reminded me of.
Me.
