A Vial Of Tears..by Michael

A Story by Michael Reisman

For some strange reason unknown to me, I decided to save my tears. A small vial with a secure cap was kept with me at all times wherever I went. It sat in a top pocket of whatever shirt I was wearing at the time. The first tear was of laughter when I watched a comedian perform. I laughed till I cried. Next it was at a wedding where an emotional speech was given by the bride followed by a kiss to the groom. They were tears of joy. A close family member passed away and at the funeral tears of sadness were shed into the vial as the cap once again secured the contents. I gave my cup of coffee and a bagel to a homeless man while walking to work one morning. He blessed me for this deed and smiled with a look that had been missing from his old worn face that made me cry some tears of compassion that touched the both of us. The small vial was filled as I wondered what the purpose of all this was supposed to be. On the news I saw a lady waiting for a heart transplant that could save her life. No donors came forward and I visited her in the hospital. She awoke for a brief moment as I said "maybe I can help you". A glass of water sat on a tray table next to her bed and I poured the vial of tears into it when she wasn't looking. Before visiting hours were over she drank the glass of water and then fell back asleep. And so the unexpected happened the following morning. She told the doctors how she felt emotions of laughter, joy, sadness, and compassion. The defective heart was healed and I saw it on the news that day. She found me and we got together for a second time. The purpose was clear now as a life was saved. She made an emotional speech at our wedding and then kissed me on the lips. Maybe things happen for a reason not known until the final result. Lessons learned from a vial of tears....
