A Few Extra Candles..by Michael

A Story by Michael Reisman

Pamela had nothing else to do on the night of a citywide blackout. She went outside and sat on her front porch stoop which most of the other neighbors did also on their block. It was a hot July evening as candles were lit and flashlights were used. Thankfully there was a full moon out that evening which shed some light on the blacked out city. This particular block was in Brooklyn, New York. Perry noticed that two houses down, the front porch was suddenly dark. He went back inside and came out with a few extra candles he had along with some extra batteries. He walked to the porch and then up a few steps. They had never met before as he introduced himself. She thanked him for the candles and batteries as he sat down for a first time chat. Three hours later power was restored to the city. Pamela invited Perry for dinner the following weekend for his kindness to her the week before. The electricity was much appreciated as two dishes of baked ziti were served. A movie was watched by both of them and then he said goodnight as Perry walked back to his house just three houses away. Next weekend she came to his place for dinner as their favorite dish was served and a movie followed. That started their official dating experience. Three years later there was a romantic candle light dinner at a beautiful restaurant not far away. That was where he took out an engagement ring and proposed to her. The following summer was their wedding. It happened to be a full moon out that evening when the ceremony was winding down. They took a smoke break together and sat outside by the outdoor garden. He lit a candle and placed it on the table in front of them. They they kissed. Maybe neighbors don't really know each other until an emergency situation. Then one lights up the others front porch with a few extra candles. Sometimes that is all it takes. Case in point in a short love story about Pamela and Perry, along with a few extra candles..
