A Tear For Humanity..by MichaelA Story by Michael Reisman
It wasn't a bum that I talked to who slept on a park bench, but another human being who was just homeless. His story was a sad one of how his divorced wife took his home, his children, and eventually his job. We sat on his bench and shared some breakfast and hot coffee that winter in the weeks that followed. Eventually he cleaned up his act and began working for me in a decent paying job that I had found for him. You might say it was a tear for humanity. A prostitute approached my car at a red light as they often do in the neighborhood I drive through on the way home from work. It was a Friday evening and I told to get in. Five hundred dollars was my offer for a weekend together at my home and she agreed. After the first night she asked, "no sex?
You just want to talk"? I nodded yes as she said "it's your money mister". She opened up her life story about an abusive father who she grew up with and a drug addicted mother. The black eyes and bruises eventually healed along with her thoughts of the lifestyle she was living in. We lived together in my home and she became a respected person who was finally treated the way she should be. She no longer wears hot pink shorts and high heels, but instead a business suit in a now well known advertising agency. You might say it was a tear for humanity. I sponsored a child from a third world country and exchanged photos and letters for the next two years. Her progress was amazing as she got educated along with proper medical treatment that she needed. Arrangements were made for her to move to the United States and I adopted her at the age of twelve. My life was soon to be over at seventy two years old from heart failure. An Angel took me home and reviewed my life and said to me "On loves path you have traveled and made a difference in others. There are a few people here who would like to say hello to you again". A homeless man sat with me as he treated me to breakfast and coffee. A former prostitute in a business suit had me stay at her place for a few months as we talked of old times together. My daughter put her arms around my neck and said "welcome home daddy". His wings spread wide as the Angel submitted a tear for humanity....... [email protected] © 2015 Michael Reisman |
