Becomes Something New..by MichaelA Story by Michael ReismanDorothy grew up in the late 50's attending public school. The
early 60's were spent in high school as the late 60's concluded college. It was
during those years when music and performers made a huge impact on our tastes in
songs. We all had our favorites, usually with one tune in particular that stuck
in our minds. The mid 70's changed the theme with disco music as the dance craze
took over. She went along with the flow although not really liking it. The 80's
brought funny looking hair styles and outfits to go along with the funny
sounding songs. Then for Dorothy the music totally died when punk rock, hip hop,
and rap destroyed her sense of quality songs of themes and lyrics, and voices.
Thank goodness for a few oldie stations on the radio where she could remember
when music was music. Finally oldie concerts emerged with groups now older, but
never forgotten. She attended one of these as four of her favorite old time
groups were performing. The last act was done by Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield,
better known back in 1965 as the "Righteous Brothers". The song was a number one
hit called "Unchained Melody". Danny whispered to himself from the seat next to
her, "Wow, my all time favorite song". Dorothy hears him and was totally shocked
that is was hers also. She told him about it and they just stood up in the
narrow aisle between the seats in front of them. Nobody noticed them slow
dancing to their favorite song as it was too dark to see. I guess a fond memory
occurred between both of them. The response seemed like the natural thing to do.
Two years later they repeated what was done before. The oldies band played their
wedding song, this time on a dance floor where everybody joined in. Maybe we
grow up with songs that have meaning to us. Then somebody else feels the same
way as it is shared. A magical moment from a small aisle at an oldies concert.
Case in point in a short love story where something old becomes something
new....
