The Corner Phone Booth..by Michael

A Story by Michael Reisman

It was 1965 as Doris walked one block away from her parents house. The sixteen year old took out a dime and dropped it in the slot where the corner phone booth stood. I'll be there in ten minutes, she said to her boyfriend Danny, I was running late from an errand I had to do for my parents". "I'll be waiting my darling", the eighteen year old boyfriend replied. Doris walked the remaining five blocks to where he lived. A big hug and kiss was shared as Danny's parents were out for the afternoon that Saturday. Their loving relationship lasted until each of them moved to different cities when they went to college. That was when they lost touch with other. The now forty year old Doris visited her old neighborhood to capture some fond memories. On the exact same block she used to live on, Doris parked her car. Out of an old instinct, she walked one block away. Something that was taken away and replaced by cell phones was there once again, just as she remembered the way it was. The once again sixteen year old took out a dime and dropped it in the slot where the corner phone booth stood. Danny answered the phone and said "let's go to college this time without moving. I don't want to lose you again". Doris agreed as one year after graduating, they both got married.....Maybe a visit to a place we once grew up in has something waiting for them only a block away. A magical item that reappeared for a special reason. Doris took out a dime and dropped it in the slot to call her husband. "I got delayed in traffic but I'll be home in ten minutes", she said to Danny from the corner phone booth.........Case in point in a short love story about Doris and Danny, where a past revisited will change their future....

It's like Back to the Future, I don't usually read stories here, but this was short with quite an impact. Enjoyed...did 18 year old's really say 'darling' back then.......just saying.

Glad you liked it Frieda, thank you. When I was 18, I always said "darling"
