Are You Okay Mozart?A Poem by Aino A JärvinenIn the town in which I live there is a yearly festival called OK Mozart. Its patrons are dying and I fear for its future...I. Sensitive
child prodigy, The
aesthete still worships your progeny of
music, we are all borne to
listen. What woe
it is we, who know you, feel to think
there are souls swept
up, swept
away, that
cannot realize your glory. II. Don
Juan, the impresario wasn’t
invited to the marriage of
Figaro. The shepherd
king did not want the
Philosopher’s Stone. Because he had
the magic flute. And
though Zaide, the deluded bridegroom gave the
goose of Cairo to Thamos, King of Egypt, Idomeneo,
King of Crete and the pretend garden-maid obeyed
the obligation of the first commandment. In
Scipio’s dream Mithridates, King of Pontus met
Ascanius in Alba, while Apollo
and Hyacinth, Bastien
and Bastienne, and the
feigned simpleton, Lucius Sulla all
received the clemency of Titus, due to
the abduction from the Seraglio. Because
women are like that. III. A
thousand Symphonies of Summer, Autumn’s
Sonatas, Winter’s
Quartets, and
Spring’s Serenades must not
be allowed to die! IV. As long
as we live, as long
as we breathe, as long
as we dream, as long
as we sing, may your
celebration endure, may your
brilliance be felt as a
wave through the ages, loved by
all, lest we
lose all grasp of art and
fall. © 2013 Aino A JärvinenReviews
