I am a Comet.

I am a comet in a sky of stars.

You look up at me and marvel at my tail of dust and fire.

And for a moment I am the most exquisite thing you have ever seen.

I blaze brighter just to hold your eyes on me a little bit longer.

And then I’m gone.

You forget how brilliant I was because now you see what was always there.

Your stars.

That one star in particular.

She has always been there, up in the night sky, sure and steady and bright.

When day comes and you can no longer gaze upon her, you are rest assured you will see her again come nightfall.

Her light comforts you and guides you through the stormy nights.  

She shines brighter than the other stars for you and for you alone.

Because you are her star.  

She may be a universe away but she can see your everlasting spark as clear as glass.

There may be times when you close your eyes and think of me.

Shimmering across a canvas of oil.

But that's all I am.

A thought.

Fleeting and superficial.

If you were to keep staring at me I would soon consume all that I am.

I would burn out and my raging fires would be no more than warm embers.

And yet there she is.

Steadfast as ever.

High in the silky black sky.

Beckoning you.

She’s shining for you.

So go.

Gaze upon your eternal star.

And shine.

Shine for her and her alone.

This is interesting Amie. It goes with your pen name very well. I think if we here ever amazing, truly amazing, we would always be amazing. I believe our natures are eternal.
As I read your poetry, I think you are right about being amazing.
This is love you about. Loving another enough to see who you are and who you are not. To actually desire for them to find their true eternal star... This is unselfish.
You have penned a love triangle without conflicting sides. Well done in philosophy and poetic creativity.
