Cleaning the World

Cleaning the World

A Poem by Angelica

An insatiable mother holds a bucket
of cleaning supplies dear to her heart.
She calls for perfection as she’d go to Nantucket
just to find the very best to take part.

Scrubbing the rooms and the tiled floor
she kills the bacteria to keep her children safe.
She calls for perfection more and more
as she sets her children in bubble for the world is unsafe.

Little children turn to porcelain dolls
high on pedestals sitting on display.
Sparkling bright, mother’s cleanliness is her downfall
as her children sit ignorant of the world in dismay.

Nothing unclean may come into the mother’s world,
she keeps her children safe from the mud of it all.
Sparkling bright, mother’s mind is twirled,
her children turn rotten and decrepit until they fall.
