Shattered Dreams of Another

Shattered Dreams of Another

A Poem by Angelica

Dreams lay broken in the hands of a little girl,
but they were the dreams of another.
Dreams for a little girl, dreamt by parents
who always dreamed big dreams,
lay shattered across the tiled floor.

A little girl no more, she dreams. She dreams
her own dreams, but the rope of old dreams
is still tied around her neck. Tied around a little neck,
it chokes and burns whenever real dreams
are envisioned, but still she dreams forever more.

A mirror of shattered pieces lay across the tiled floor.

Big dreams dreamt by another push through
a little girl growing up in a world others’ dreams
as others want so much more of her,
but she wants nothing more as she sleeps on the floor.

Alone she sleeps dreaming sweet dreams
where aching desires are fulfilled as she flies
through the sky hand in hand with another
she dreams to be with forever more.
A genuine smile finally reaches her face

under the mask of false dreams portraying
a happy strong girl, but inside she is torn
between two worlds. Two worlds battle internally,
one is the one she wants while the other
is the one forced through.

Dreams lay shattered in the hands of a little girl,
but they are not her own. Her dreams stay
in her hidden world fighting to break free
as others’ big dreams for her
lay shattered across the tiled floor.
