No Escape

No Escape

A Poem by Angelica

Sirens wail like babies’ cries bouncing
on and off the city’s caged walls.
Flashing lights blind the passerby
as cars race at the speed of light.
Three times ten to the eighth miles per second
is not fast enough as the cars behind
crash into your blinded bumper.
Chains jingle to a dreary tune
as hand cuffs lock in place;
there’s no escaping the Man.
