Strength

Strength

A Poem by Annette Pisano-Higley

Strength is what is born,
When struggles impose themselves,
And you choose to live.

Unfortunately there is always one to stir up the pot and ruin the world, a poignant write.

This is the finest, maybe briefest cure for accepting that what's gone was meant to be faced. But, somehow, don't know how.. are still able to see the sky and feel the breeze.

Annette, these are such wise and beautiful words.

For a short poem, this one packs a whollop! First, I'm reminded of a Maya Angelou book title: "wouldn't take nothing for my journey now" (a concept I really embrace). I love my strength, which was borne of hard times (not sure if that should be "born" or borne"?) Struggles ALWAYS impose themselves (love the way you state this without whining or blaming). The last line feels a little bit like a (well-deserved) slap in the face for the whiners that fantasize about suicide or other self-harm avenues. I was one of these wimps for many years before developing the strength to take life by the horns. This is the ultimate in packing a short poem with heavy meaning! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
