The Earth Holds Its BreathA Poem by Annette Pisano-Higley
Bathed in the soft glow of light all around,
The earth breathes deeply. Blanketed in the soft pause of Christmas wonder, And the flickers of a multitude of candles, It rests for a precious moment in time. The stars around it open their windows into the night, While angels approach it, sounding mellifluous harmonies, Like sun rays emanating from golden horns. And the earth sings again, the earth rejoices again. In the peace of the heralded birth. The earth holds its breath. Celestial arms enfold it in divine rapture, For this is the night of nights, the miracle of miracles. It holds its children to its heart, as mothers will, And says softly to them, ‘Sleep in the peace of innocence, For you are mine and you are not alone. Witness the birth of hope, of forgiveness, of love, And know that they live again, for He lives again. The earth, and all, hold their breath. © 2018 Annette Pisano-HigleyReviews
