Would have Settled for A Lie

Would have Settled for A Lie

A Poem by kenzie evans

Wrote this in the airport 2 or 3 weeks ago.

"
Why did you tell the truth?
I would have settled for a lie,
I didn't have to cry,
didn't have to be up all night,
didn't even have to cause a fight.
You said you wanted to die;
all because you made me cry...

She's up next on your list,
the next girl you'll kiss.
The facts are laid out, see?;
She's prettier, funnier, better than me.

I'm no good now; bruised.
Please don't be playing me, I don't wanna be used.
You're the only thing keeping me sane,
the one at the front of my brain.
The only kind of happy I got.
It was the same for you... so I thought.

What if I didn't come home?
would it be her on the end of the phone?
What if you don't mean what you say,
when you tell me you love me, everyday?

I care for you, I truly do...
But sometimes, it's damn hard to read you.
I love you, but you made me cry,
I would have, and could have settled for a lie.

A very tragic and heartbreaking poem. I think you did an excellent job writing this, getting those hurtful feelings down in words.
