A Poem by kenzie evans

You laid me out carefully, a fresh bed
on the clean side of town. But all I wanted
was something dark, like the last candle burning out
in the wind, and a mouth that could whisper "f**k"
when it needed to. Please, it's not Spring,
so give me dirt under my fingernails, and a new skin
thick enough to lock out
what the real world offers.
