Madness

Madness

This is something I wrote in the fall during my first semester at school.

Madness

They say he went mad,

haven’t you heard?

Always sort of an odd fellow,

that far off look on his face,

tip-toeing along to some

unheard tune.

An uncommon man,

wild eyes and jagged shocks,

mismatched suits and socks,

uncouth. No appreciation

for passion or the refined arts.

Can’t you recall

Him chatting with the children

in church, laughing and kidding,

condemning himself to Hell?

Singing for all to hear

during strolls at outrageous

hours of the day,

chirping with the birds,

talking to the tulips.

Tried to off himself.

Found him looking like

a tornado took to his

room, toppling towers

of journals and who

knows what else,

smiling, head down

on the desk,

eyes glazed over,

hands frantically

scribbling with

the lifeblood

of his mind.
