goldfish are cheap

goldfish are cheap

A Poem by <3

I'll just swim inside my little bowl

back and forth admiring the gold

on my skin

Watch the world watch me swim around

Dream of setting my feet on solid ground

To free my fins

I'm just a dime a dozen

Nothing special about the way I am

Hiding in shallow water

Dreaming of coming to the end

But who are you to free me now

The sun comes in tiny slivers

saving me from my cold blooded shivers

In this world

The days go by slower than the waves

on and off dreamingof eing saved

from this world I am in now

But who are you to free me

I'm just a dime a dozen

Nothing special about the way I am

Hiding in shallow water

Dreaming of coming to an end

But who are you?

Why waste your time

Watching me waste away

right in front of your eyes

with each passing day

Why come and free me now?

When I've become

so comfortably numb

Nice, made me think. Bit of a typo in stanza three though, I loved this "The sun comes in tiny slivers" and the ending was brilliant, my brothers goldfish died yesterday and after reading this I don't think I want him to get another one!

Aren't we all like the goldfish? Both insignificant and priceless. A very well put-together poem, Dana.
