The Fall

The Fall

A Poem by Princess Abbie

The things inside will twist and turn

while she braids the twine, so unsure

She burns craters into the moon with her craving eyes

staring into the sun, dreaming she can fly

She lights another cigarette and it seeps into her skin

She falls, feeling empty, easily embracing her sin

If regrets could be counted, hers would outnumber the stars

She wants to dance across the surface of Mars

To leave, far away, to leave her home

she feels she'll find herself out there, given a place to roam

Build up the cities from dirt in the ground,

pull steel pieces from the lost and found

Burn trees from the roots up, until the whole world is gone

We all need oxygen to breathe, we all need to move on

She learns to balance on the rope

holding on to nothing but hope

Letting go, free falling through the air

She hopes you're at the bottom, hopes you're waiting there

Approaching the ground, no one's here

But she has no time to be consumed by fear

She breaks her bone, breaks her head,

but you break her heart. She's left for dead

She needed you there, needed you then

Needed you there to see the end

You weren't there, you needed to be

And now she's nothing more than a memory.
