Love is Like a Double Edged Sword

Love is Like a Double Edged Sword

A Poem by Amanda
"

...just a thought...

"

Love is like a double edged sword

One side, you have

All the happiness in the world

On the other, you have

The heartache and pain

No matter what anyone says,

There is no way to get

The better side without the other

Once it strikes your heart,

With the elation of joyful abandon,

The darker side hides in the shadows,

Lurking like a wraith~

Waiting to make an appearance

Though it may possibly sound cynical and bitter,

This is emphatically an observation made

By one that has been scored,

Pierced deeply by both sides

Very appropriate observation! I completely agree and it sucks thinking about it
but that's love! The original, perpetual, double edged sword! Catch 22 at it's finest! I could go on
about my sworn enemy, but I won't. You've said enough with this completely honest piece!

"All the happiness in the world
On the other, you have
The heartache and pain
No matter what anyone says,
There is no way to get
The better side without the other"

How real is this?

what a phenomonal piece in metaphor, draws the heart to ponder the applications considering and what
becomes of the mended heart, once pierced by deciet, although the wound has healed, the scars still remain in memory as well as emotion, I loved this, excellent job.

I must say, this poem held incredible meaning for me. I have been the person who is scorned by the sword that is love, but I've also used the sword to keep me strong and protect myself. I think this poem reflects exactly that. Good job.

Ah ha!!! Another delightful way to look at love. Swords kill and they also protect and they have a multitude of other uses. Sounds like love to me. Goody goody Amanda

What a beautiful comparison! Love is really like a double-edged sword. Couldn't have said it better. I just wrote something about love, and now, seeing your view, opens up a great new perspective! Thanks :) great read!

Couldn't have said it better... love is like walking the razors edge... you have to take the chance to get hurt in looking for greatness... I know I would rather get burned a bit in the pursuit of looking for an eternal flame... wonderfully stated.

This is a wonderfully formatted piece of writing, the look of it invites the reader. The feeling behind the words is obviously hurt, bewilderment and more. There are phrases that really stress those emotions: 'Once it strikes your heart, / With the elation of joyful abandon, / The darker side hides in the shadows, / Lurking like a wraith~' - such powerful words which really say it all.

(You) Thank you for sharing.

Beautifully done.. and yes there is no love without pain... on any level.. but then again that is what makes love feel so special... the more pain you feel the more deeply you can feel love.. if we only knew love this world would be such a great place! I was taught to embrace pain growing up as "that which doesn't kill you will only make you stronger" or at least that was what I was told... thank you for sharing your work.. brilliant piece!
