In Our Twenty-seventh Year

In Our Twenty-seventh Year

A Poem by Amanda
"

goodbye to you, my former life partner...I hope you find your way...

"

This, on the beginning

Of our twenty-seventh year

I think of you and wonder…

Though we are apart now,

It was a part of my life

That I had to leave behind

We shared a life

And we have a history

But it is in the past now

There is no going back for me

I cannot return to the turmoil

That was our life together

I know that there was love

And a part of that

Will be with me always

Please let me go

Continue on with your own

Life didn’t stop with my leaving

I wish you well

I hope that you will find

That it will be alright

Now I must make my own way

No matter what you may think

I will follow the path set for me

All this I will tell you

And nothing more, on the beginning

Of our twenty-seventh year…

The title is slightly bulky. But overall, a good poem. It's difficult separating yourself from the man who promised to love and to hold you 'till death do you part'.

Very sad! Me being divorced also, I'm partial to this piece. I understand exactly what you speak of here! Incredibly descriptive and more dark than I'd expect from you. I enjoyed!

Heart breaking piece and yet written with tenderness. Poetry with feeling.

Dripping sadness covers me after reading this. Very, very sad to have spent so much time together only to find the need to leave. It's disheartening, to say the least. I am glad to hear your spirit shine through in hope.... sounds like you are in the right frame of mind to make it through this life transition. I hope you are... and he is. Ripe with hurt, I hope this write was freeing for you. Much love~~

Ach, it is all sad, but sometimes a moving on is necessary for all kinds of reasons. Good luck!

Amanda, this is really so personal and I'm really sorry about it.
It is indeed so hard to handle this kind of feeling.
You know, my best friend's parents just got separated a month before, after 25 years of their marriage and since I'm very much close to his family, so I know how it feels....
And you know what, I don't know whether I should write it or now...but a child suffers more than both the halves after any divorce and I'm sorry if I over crossed my limits but as if I wrote before about my friend and he cries a lot these days about the issue...and its just a terrible feel which only super strong humans could handle.

Well...you have portrayed that feel so amazingly here and it is just speaking so much in its depth.
Life goes on, it never stops for anyone....and I remember one of your quotes here - "Life is a journey, not a destination"
Great work as always....

"There is no going back for me
I cannot return to the turmoil
That was our life together"

This is something I must keep telling myself concerning my last relationship. Everyday is a struggle for me and as I read this eloquently written piece, my heart began to tremble. I am always in awe when I read something that makes me weep. Very well done my friend. Kudos

Wow,
I've heard some say divorce can be worse than death...so many memories to erase, good and bad. I wish both of you well. Your lines also show hope. Life does not stop. You can and will laugh, again. Great emotional write. Rain..
