To Walk in His Shoes

To Walk in His Shoes

A Poem by Amanda
"

a matter of understanding....

"

To walk in his shoes

Is something I would wish to do

To get inside of his mind

And know what it is he is thinking

I would care to understand

What is inside his heart

To walk in his shoes

To see what he sees in this world

To feel what he feels in his heart

To understand what wonders

There are in this life

And what he holds most dearly

For what he shows to the world

Is a kind and caring soul,

Emotions that run so deeply,

Though there is a part of him

That he hides from everyone

Including me…

If he were to walk in my shoes,

He would see the love

That I feel in my heart and soul

The understanding and the patience,

The faith and trust I have in him,

The willingness to wait for what may come

He would see what and who I am

That the caring soul of him

Has captured the part of me

That I tried to hide from that same world

And above all else, his light

That has illuminated my life

It is not a war we wage

In our differences as men and women

Though some may think that it is just that

It may be more a give and take,

And a consideration for what the other feels…

Of knowledge, understanding and love.

Author's Note

Amanda
is it really a war of the sexes or just misunderstanding that seems to get in the way? what we perceive in a member of the opposite gender isn't always what is and openness isn't always forthcoming. we must explore each other to see what it really is...to take a walk in the others' shoes...

when walking in their shoes doesn't come easy, walking along side is often more than enough. you're clearly in a good place already. This is a great expression of love. wonderful write!

Curiosity would sometimes drive us insane when we would want to find out what the 'other person' feels about us. But in most cases, it should often be left misunderstood. Just like the whole point of a religion, faith is behind the true meaning of love, and whether we would be unhappy with what the person really thinks about us, it could also be saddening to find that after you have experienced what his feelings are for you, it is not special anymore. Love is famous for its ability to elude almost everyone, and the last thing anyone would want to do is understand it completely, because then there's nothing left to enjoy; all the knowledge has been reaped.

In a simpler format, do not try and find out everything about love, because that little tinge of the unknown often helps in relationships. It makes it all the more unique.

Good poem.

Don't we all wish to see how our other lover truly feels? It's something that keeps me wondering continuously. Just what the other is feeling whether it's about us, or other things. Very interesting poem. Really enjoyed it! Thanks for the read!

Trying to understand others always leads us to ourselves. That sounds cliched. Well so be it.

This poem is good and solid because it says it like it is. The true things in our lives are simple. You would really like someone close to you to read this poem, it seems. Consideration of the other, one caring soul capturing another soul.....that really speaks to the reader. I don't see this poem as filled with intricate metaphor, but rather it talks from the heart. Thanks....raining

According to me, it doesn't seems like a "war of gender" but it is even more thoughtful than that!
It's very hard for us to walk in someone else's shoes and the same goes with them. No one else can walk in our shoes of life like us!
The formatting, change of color and the picture created a perfect mood for the poem too!
Great work :)

I enjoyed this...it is so true. And I like the way you journey from wondering about him, to vowing how you feel and then that marvellous final verse where you shift from individual experience to reach a general conclusion which is of value to all of us...and very wise.

Communication is the key, to a better understanding between you and me. I think that it is a misunderstanding too. I liked this poem, thanks for asking me to read it.
