Words

Words

A Poem by Amanda

Why is it that words

Our way to communicate,

The things that always

Seem to get in the way?

They can convey all kinds of things

          Portray a story

                   Give comfort

                             Show great love and caring

                                      Cut deeper than any knife…

For all the expression

That can come from them

They are most often

Misunderstood and misinterpreted

For them to give

          Such joy and elation

In one breathe ~ in another

                             Such pain and misery

                                      Unbearably so, in either case…

The only question

That constantly comes to mind

No matter what is said is…

Why?

Its not just you. Words are odd creatures, winding one way then the next, they always stray from what they are born as, and often they take a less than desirable path... But there are still the onesthat follow their purpose, onvey what was meant in the first place. And remember

They are words, and they do hurt often, but they are only words, and your heart is stronger than any word. You are stronger than any words.

This is a nice piece, and i can honestly say i know the feeling...

Words can be very cruel depending on the arrangement and I would hate to hear words in a certain order. I try not to let others get to me with these words that can cut through ice but I also can't deal with the tone of the words either.

Nice write

This totally fascinates as it is exactly, precisely, totally what we are all about here. Making the pesky little werds do what we want, should we know what we want them to do. And you have done a great job with the question as questions just rock. Why? Why? Why? Indeed! They do not get in the way in your poem though as all the words do there job and none are wasted and the focus is clearly on the first word of the poem and the last. The answer is that it is not the words that get in the way but the way we use them.

I agree with you on this, there's a lot of people who misunderstand what others are saying it can lead up to a lot of hurt or angre even ruin relationships or friendships because of it. I believe if we'd stop think of what we want to, say then word it differently would help a lot. i enjoy your writing well put good job karen

Yes, A. Interpretation is a killer. If we misinterpret words it
can lead us into a lot of things.. such as false hope, perhaps even
thinking someone is angry when they aren't..

We have to be careful what and how we say things. Something
I have been working on for years, and still don't have it right.
"Swift to listen, slow to speak". ... hard to do, but important.
I often repeat myself to make sure my point isn't misinterpreted...
but that gets annoying to others. lol

I love words, as do you I'm sure --- because we are writers.
They are a powerful tool!
Very very powerful. They can save or destroy.
But actions are equally
powerful, if not more so.

I enjoyed this piece Amanda!
Beautifully penned my friend! As always.... :)

This is a subject that I have actually given some thought to. But first, this was very well written and thoughtful ink! I think that even though we all use words to convey things, but they often get misinterpreted or misunderstood because of tone or just because we all have experienced different things in life. A phrase said could mean something to someone, while that same phrase could have a whole different meaning to someone else. It is all about exposure and our own thought process.

Bring two different minds togther misinterpretation or misunderstandings can occur. There is no one mind alike. We may be similar but so individually different. We just have to step out of our shoes and into the other person's shoes and see it from their angle.

I truly do like this poem.. Communication is part of my job, so that is why I have given this subject so much thought. Oh, and it is not just you... ;p
