About my little half brother, Travis. He has Asperger syndrome and everyone at his school is making fun of him :( And he has an obsession with wombats :P

You laugh 

At him.

You call

Him names.

"You're a retard!"

You call out.

"You're stupid!"

Well, did you

Know he has gotten

Straight A's 

On his report card?

Did you know

He is one of

The most smartest

People in his grade?

Did you know

He knows everything

About wombats?

You didn't?

Well, now I'm

Pretty sure you

Feel stupid for

Insulting him.

When people feel insecure about themselves, that's what really brings out the insults and how bad they dish it out on others. When they look at him they probably don't know how to respond to get to know him so instead they just take the easy way out which is make a joke out of something which isn't a joke.

Sweet poem. You let us steep into his shoes. I know a few people with asperger's who have very fulfilling lives. Their gifts make them irreplaceable when they find their niche. Kids can be cruel and mean. It's a shame. He sounds like a very interesting person.

i hope you brother understands that he has an amazing big sister who loves him, and has captured the hearts of many writers on Writers Cafe :) at first i read this and was like, "Wow, thats random." and then i read the description, and was blown away, that is why the description boxes are soo important, because the one sentence you wrote in there breathed meaning and severity into this whimsical and cute piece.
i love animals, and will soon be going to college to study them (zoology) and i when i first read the title, did not even know what a F***ing Wombat was, i had to go research it on Wikipedia!!! (tell your bro he is smarter than a college student who is supposed to know about animals lol maybe he can teach me a thing or 2 bout them some time) this is a heart warming poem, with a whimsical, children poem feel to it. i would like to see this and the description you posted, published in a children's poetry book. it makes me happy to know that people still give a damn, even if he is your brother, you writing this piece in his honor is just soo awesome! great work!!! i hope this gets recognized!!!
