Mad?A Chapter by dani!"Are you sure it looks good?" Katie asked frantically. She was almost ready for her date with John, and she was freaking out.
"Katie, you look amazing." I said... again.
She exhaled. "Okay, I'm ready." I heard a car pull up in the driveway and she squealed. "He's here!" She practically ran down the stairs and out the door.
"Bye, Haze! I'll be back whenever! I'll talk to you later with all the details!" She said while running towards the car. She was still looking at me, not paying attention to where she was going, and tripped over the curb. She screamed, then caught her balance. I rolled my eyes and laughed at my friend as she got into the car, and it drove away.
"Are you staying over again?" I heard Justin say from behind me. I turned around and smiled.
"Yeah," I said.
He smiled. "So, it's just me and you. You and me. What're we going to do for the three hours that she's not home?" He rasied his eyebrows suggestivly. Then he smiled, so I knew he was kidding.
I thought of the possibilities, then quickly pushed them to the back of my mind. I couldn't think of Justin like that. He's Katie's brother, that'd be wrong. Plus, he's two years older than me. Justin wouldn't do anything like that with a sophomore.
"You wanna watch a movie?" he suggested. I nodded. "Okay, we've got Dumbo, Finding Nemo, The Lion King, or Aladdin."
"Aladdin! Yes!" I exclaimed and he laughed. He popped the DVD into the side of the TV.
We watched the movie in silence, exchanging glances every once in a while. About half way through the movie, I realized the position we were in. He was lying down on the couch, and I was lying next to him, my head resting on his chest. He was stroking the top of my head. I couldn't help but feel attracted to him at that moment.
Slowly, I leaned up and was about to kiss him, when he jerked away and stood up, sending me rolling off the couch onto the floor.
"What the hell, Jus?" I asked, standing up and brushing myself off.
"That can never happen again." he said sternly.
"What can't happen?"
"You can't... have your face... that close to mine."
"Why not?"
"You almost kissed me!"
"I know." I said simply.
"But... but..."
"I like you, Justin. I didn't realize it until just now. And I thought you felt the same way, considering the position we were in."
He hesitated. "I don't... think of you like that, Hazel."
"What did you just call me?"
"I meant... Blue."
"Justin, why can't we just give it a shot?"
"Because you're my sister's best friend."
"And you're my best friend's brother. So?"
"I just... I can't."
"What are you scared of?" I questioned, taking a step forward.
"I'm not scared." he said.
"Then what do you have to lose?" I asked, putting my arms around his neck. I leaned up and kissed him softly. To my surprise, he kissed me back. As the kiss deepend, we both fell back onto the couch.
"Let's watch the rest of the movie." he said after pulling away. I nodded as we lay back down on the couch. I leaned my head on his shoulder and he stroked the side of my hip up and down. -- "How was the date?" I asked, running over to Katie, eager to know what happened.
"It was... interesting." she smiled.
"I bet it was. You're home an hour and a half later than you said you would be. What exactly happened?" Justin asked, his tone serious.
"Nothing like that, Jus. Calm down." Katie said, and I saw Justin relax. "We went to the movie, and then he drove me home."
"And what happened after he parked?" I asked, knowing what happened.
She took a deep breath, then exclaimed, "We kissed!"
"And?" I asked.
"And what? We kissed, it was... magical." she sighed.
"That sounds really corny." I laughed.
"I know, but I'm not lying. I don't mean to sound cliché when I say this, but, I felt sparks. It was amazing. I'm getting dizzy just thinking about it." she said, falling onto the couch.
"Let's not talk about this anymore." Justin said, obviously uncomfortable.
"Right. So, how was your night?" Katie asked.
"Good." Justin and I said quickly in unison.
Katie gave us a confused look. "Okay..." she said. "What'd you guys do?"
"Um, we watched a movie... then ate some pizza... then you came home." Justin said.
"Wow, you two are ANIMALS!" Katie joked. "Pizza, movie... sounds like you two were almost on a date."
"What do you mean by that?" I asked with a little too much sharpness in my voice.
"I was... kidding..." Katie said. "You two are acting weird tonight. I'm going to bed."
"Night." Justin said as Katie padded up the stairs.
"You think she thinks it's anything?" I asked.
"I doubt it. How are we gonna tell her?" Justin asked.
"I dunno. She'll freak out." I said. "You think she'll be mad?"
"Mad... surprised... shocked... scared... I dunno. It could be a mixture of everything." he said.
"Yeah, I know. But for now... let's just..." I ran my hand up and down his arm. "Just keep it a secret."
"You got it." he said, leaning up and kissing me. -- The next morning, I woke up on the couch, sleeping with my head resting on Justin's chest. And it wasn't the sunlight that woke me up. Katie stood at the foot of the stairs, a scared look on her face.
"It was nothing." I told her after getting up and walking into the kitchen.
"Nothing? You two looked like... a couple." she said, sounding worried.
"Katie, would you be mad if Justin and I went out?" I asked, scared to hear her reaction.
"Mad?" she asked.
I nodded. "Not mad." I let out a breath of relief. "Maybe a little weirded out."
"Huh?" I asked.
"Haze, you're my best friend, and I love you like a sister. And Justin, he's my brother, so I love him like a brother, obviously. For me, that'd be like my brother and my sister going out. And how weird does that sound?"
"Kind of weird..."
"Why? Are you two... together?"
"Well..."
"I want the truth and the truth only."
"We're not together. Yet. Yesterday, we kissed. More than once." I said.
She sighed. "This is kinda weird."
"I know. And if you don't want me to be with him-"
"No. Haze, I love you. And I love my brother. All I want is for you two to be happy. So if you want to go out, then... by all means, go ahead."
"Really?" I asked, a smile forming on my lips.
"Yeah." she said.
"Thank you. Thank you so much." -- "Justin, sweetie. Wake up." I said, kneeling down by the couch. He didn't move. I leaned over and kissed his neck. He still didn't move. Damn, that usually worked. "Don't make me do this the hard way." I said, kissing his ear. He groaned, but still didn't move.
"Fine. But you made me do it." I took a step back, then charged at him, jumping on his chest. He groaned and pushed me off.
"B***h." he mumbled.
"Wow, you are so not a morning person." I said.
"Where's Katie?" he asked, rubbing his eyes.
"Katie is upstairs getting dressed. And then the four of us are going out."
"Four?" he asked.
"Yeah. Me, you, Katie, and John. Kind of like a double date... only out for lunch."
"Date?"
"I told her."
"And she's not pissed?"
"Pissed? Nope. She wants us to be HAPPY." I said with a smile.
"Really?" he asked.
"Nope, I was just lying."
"Shut up." he said, laughing. Then he leaned down and kissed me. I put my arms around his neck and pulled him closer.
"Woah, too much." I pulled back and saw Katie at the foot of the steps, covering her eyes. I giggled.
"Sorry, Kate."
"Just... I don't know. Don't do that in front of me. Often, at least. And Jus, go get ready. We're going out. Make yourself look descent."
"Fine, MOM." he joked, giving me a quick kiss before running up the stairs.
"You guys are gross." Katie said.
"But you want me to be happy." I smiled.
"Yeah, I'm regretting saying that though." she said, smiling, so I knew she was joking. © 2009 dani! |
