Shattered WindowsA Poem by ZeroPeaceful sleep has been something That my mind has deprived.
The solace of the silent darkness Alludes my tear-filled eyes.
It is anxious to rest and awaken in a day When the first rays of the morning sun
Would shine through my windows, And find path to my invigorated face.
A day where each breath I take, Fills my lungs with the zest of life and love
Because she is by my side On the sands of her favorite beach
Needing to speak no words To say so much.
Calm across the sunset’s horizon, Not a whisper in the wind
Except the beating Of young fiery hearts.
Summer breeze upon auburn hair, Hazel eyes that catch my stare
It is as if I am in another universe, An infinite space, free of time, with only her.
But alas, such a place never existed. If it did, perhaps only in my thoughts.
Indeed there is an infinite space, free of time, And that is the distance between her and I.
The truth behind her eyes pierces like light Through my smoke and mirrors,
Distilling the impurity of expectation From the bitter waters of reality
Where I actually awaken in a day When the first rays of the scorching red sun Shatter my windows to a million pieces And brands the nightmare onto my sleepless face
Forever reminding me of her As I suffer the ineffable cruelty
In trying to pick up the pieces Of her broken promises.
