A Poem by Alisa
"

July 22, 2013 I was reading a lot of Plath & Bukowski

"
i wrote a lot of poetry this summer
i said a month from now.

no, i wrote a lot of poetry tonight.
And never again will I
   until next time.
Attach necessities to your person
and go for a walk
talk about something depressing
and gargle in the dirty languor you're immersed in
for a while
You'll spit back up,
so I'm not worried.
I knew you would feel sick.
Someone else will finish the glass
like a man that neither I nor you could ever be

and don't apologize
- that doesn't do much
and diet until you feel full enough to puke
and read until you feel calm enough to die
and swim until you feel comfortable with drowning
and feel until you can't feel anything -
But most of all,
write poetry all night
and be convinced it was all summer.

i can definitely see both Plath and Bukowski in this...not a fan of him...but wrote my masters thesis on Plath and Sexton...she was such a marvelous poet....and was in the midst of writing much of her best work at the end, so unfortunate.
i really like a lot of the paradoxes in this...and you keep juxtaposing poetry, such a figurative genre, with such mundane, everyday life things...and some ugly things...puking, drowning, gargling in dirty languor which we all do enough.
such interesting, and fresh writing.
