the old guy

the old guy

The old guy

That old guy

That used to walk the park

I used to wonder

What was in his heart

He always walked alone

While I had a love with me

He would give you a half of a smile

But his eyes he would never let me see

He dragged his leg just a little bit

As if he was pulling baggage from his past

Maybe he hurt from what I had on my arm

Maybe love was once his and it didn’t last

I remember how he would pass us

Then stop and slowly turn half way around

And how he would slowly turn back

As if his heart had just fell to the ground

Shaking his head and dragging that leg

Hw would slowly walk away

I remember thinking

Some woman must have really hurt him

Someone gave him everything under the sun

Then took it away and made his world dim

How long had this poor man suffered

Where and when would his pain end

He’s crossed so many rivers and bridges

And he did it all without his friend

I used to wonder and worry about this man

Now I find myself walking the same park

Searching for the man I once wondered about

I see couples that reminded me of me

And wait…she kinda look like…now

Maybe I should have worn my glasses so I could see
now there is that old man

I want him to know that I understand

I know what it’s like to be hurt

Maybe I would move faster if my leg didn’t hurt
