21 cigarettes

21 cigarettes

A Poem by aftervision

What in the hell is really going on?

The world that I grew up in is gone

It's nothing to get stabbed, hit or shot

All in an effort to get what you've got

It's getting scary just to pick up the paper

To tell someone goodbye, will you see them later?

In all my years, I have never seen so much hate

Our little ones are in trouble, those born of late

Whatever happened to the golden rule?

I'm scared to send my child to school

What once was an institution of learning

Is now a building where the crack pipe is burning

Some of the teachers care and give their best

But some could careless if they pass their tests

Maybe no one will ever know, in whom do we place the blame

Or why have all our young people gone insane

The green-eyed monster has taken over

Everything’s done for the love of the dollar

Can we ever get our world back?

Is there twenty-one cigarettes in a pack?
