 Apple

Hey dad, yes it’s me

Am I one of two or two of three?

See the line of communication got cut off

Shortly after you pulled your pants off

I grew up a child that was fostered

Your yoke was hard but your child still prospered

When you look at me, yourself you will see

Because the apple didn’t fall too far from the tree

Tell me, what words can you say

To justify your absence on each and every birthday

Tell me dad, did I ever come to mind

Did you think that a one-night stand could last a lifetime?

You are the one responsible for the tears

Of siblings that have been separated for years

You probably thought that this secret you would take to the grave

Sadly your love and affection I have still crave

Hey dad, yes it’s still me, trying to touch

The man that I needed so much

With you in my life there is no limit to what I can be

I need your help, signed an apple from your tree.

Those first four lines really set the tone of this piece. I could feel the pain in each line. It kind of felt like a man writing this using a child's voice. I'm sure this is a very relateable piece to a lot of young men at this present time. Such a profound piece. Thanks for sharing.
