Schedule DadA Poem by Black InkThings about my dadYou missed Thanksgiving by the way I suppose it was better at your mom's house than at ours Was it fun to break tradition? Did you imagine the look on our faces when we realized you weren't coming back? I didn't think you did Did you enjoy it over there so much that you decided to revisit her and come home late again the next day? I bet if it wasn't for the sweet sixteen we wouldn't have seen you this whole entire break Do you want to leave? Because if you do you can leave I know we can't fit into your schedule anymore Do you miss it? Having your "free time" Is it better than the family you have at home? You have somewhere to go Somewhere to be I'm guessing wherever that place is We're not there Are we dad? Do we run you away? Do I run you away? I see you at times stare at me like you wish you could hit me Do I insert that much anger in you? Am I that horrible? If so I see why you never have time for us Mr. Schedule Or do I have the "honor" to call you dad? There are times where you snap at us and ridicule us to the level of depression Mom threatens to throw you out And you claim to NEVER leave us But you're fading away Like the bruises on a broken child Will you ever have a cleaned slate for us Mr. Schedule? Or will you fade into the darkness you surround us in? I remember when you left us when I was four I cried for months I considered you my twin My best friend The only person who understood me And you left Do you know how much it hurt me How much it hurt us When we were forced to say goodbye? I guess the cycle has to restart But for how long will you be gone now? Your son needs you He needs you dad And by you leaving it'll only morph him into the boy you never wanted him to be like Why can't you stay? What could possibly be on your schedule that's more important than us, Your family? You know what? If it maddens frustrates you that much Then go! Go dad, just go You've scarred our hearts deep enough..
