Bookends

A Poem by Ashleigh Chantalle

Things must always
come in two,
One for me
and one for you.
As the heart
is lit anew,
Words are spoken
pure and true.
Things must always
come in two,
You claim me
and I let you.
Fire burns in touch,
stars flew,
Then comes the dark,
the end in view.
Things must always
come in two,
I reach out,
your words are few.
Breath ripped away,
heart black and blue,
I try to swallow,
my brain's confused.
And so things
now come in one,
Broken heart has
just begun.
Try to escape
I try to run,
I can't escape
the setting sun.
Things must always
come in two...

Laughs were many...

Now smiles are few...
