Last Night In Madrid

Last Night In Madrid

A Poem by A. F. Carrera

Goodbye rooftops
And goodbye you
Youths in the gardens
Bathed in blue

Goodbye garbage
Far below the
Falling fearless
Festival glow

Goodbye gorgeous
Evening wealth
Made in sunlit
Marble clouds

That pried my
Callous coughing heart
From pride and
Wonder and your art.

And goodbye guías,
Midnight teas,
And toasts to the crowd
Whose transparent tease

Wrests you from my
Wanton arms
And casts your streets
In alien charms.
