After five years

Of saying "hello" and "goodbye".

Eventually,

You will notice

That I am always being friendly.

You will see

That I know your heart

Inside-out.

We will have lunch together

And advise each other,

Then laugh

As if we were friends

Last year.

I will see that deep inside,

You need me.

We could be best friends

And I predict

That we will be.

You will say that you hate 

When people get close,

Then leave you stranded

Making life worse,

But I will reply with

"Darling, I care for you".

It is not always the same

After five years

Of saying "hello" and "goodbye".

Eventually,

You will see

How much you mean to me,

And maybe you will,

Just maybe,

On an unexpected day

Give me a hug.
