The Black Rose Garden

The Black Rose Garden

A Poem by Afayah
"

for K.M.

"

She isolates herself from

The rest of this enormous world,

Fearing that maybe

Her true self will be discovered.

She does not speak

Neither does she smile.

Her place is in that garden

Filled with lush red roses.

There she embraces all the things

That make her different.

She accepts her unconventional beauty,

Expressing all her thoughts

That were pent up inside…

Burdens of the real world.

She imagines the garden

As a replica of real life.

She seeks out one special rose

Considered an outcast

And somewhat dead.

She comforts this rose

And helps it to cope

As the only black rose

In a garden of red.
