Infatuation

Infatuation

A Poem by Afayah
"

for M.W.

"

I find myself bombarded
By the affections of every other beings;
Obsessed over by lunatics,
Given jealous orders by admirers,
Exalted by those who believe
That I am so priceless,
A diamond in the rough,
A precious timeless piece…

I do not deny that I am

But it is stifling when you are covered
By the very things
That place you so high,
And it is never my intention
To hurt those who feel
Like they belong
In this bubble of myself
That they themselves have created

Nowhere in my brittle heart
Is there a space for disregard,
An opening for despair,
A crevice for hate,
I do not give these away …

At least, not for free

Despite their persistence
Regardless of the consequences
Of smiling like I care,
The feeling is not mutual,
I do not reciprocate
For my mind is clearly elsewhere
Infatuated by the innocence of someone else.
