How I Wish We Didn't Grow

How I Wish We Didn't Grow

A Poem by Blue
"

song lyrics

"

Walking down my mem’ry lane,

of childhood joys and trivial pain,

you and I looked so young back then.

Dressing dolls, hide-and-seek

Laughing, playing smart all week,

we chanted love songs and sing them all again.

Oh, how I wish

we didn’t grow,

didn’t age,

and didn’t know

‘cause life’s supposed to be

childlike--happy and free…

Travelling back to high school years

of acnes, boys and midnight tears

lazy strolls down empty streets of love.

School excuses for party lights,

feigned smiles and crazy mental fights,

we defied the rules of Him above.

Oh, how I wish

we didn’t grow,

didn’t age,

and didn’t know

‘cause life’s supposed to be

childlike…happy and free…

Now we have chosen our separate ways.

I went to college; you stayed in our place,

always a beauty queen.

I struggled with my school affairs,

you were preoccupied with other cares,

mother at sixteen.

Oh, how I wish

we didn’t grow,

didn’t age,

and didn’t know

‘cause life’s supposed to be

childlike…happy and free…

Walking down my mem’ry lane,

of childhood joys and trivial pain,

you and I looked so young back then…

Reminds me of early years when children used to play out late at night keep those memories tight and they will serve you well.

You are wise beyond your years =>

Wow, that was a powerful song, one that many all across the world could sing. The past usually seems so sweet and wonderful. It is amazing how different two friends' paths can be after adulthood arrives. What a cute little baby.

When do we hear you belt this one out nutter? You're much too wise for your young years, I didn't accept this rationalization until I was much older than 18 years young. Very relatable lyrics, as always, you hit it out of the ballpark.

Yes indeed, the lines & lyrics flow so divinely in perfect cadence this would make a very sweet, nostalgic song though for maximum effect, I would urge that whatever the accompanying melody, it must compliment the delightul sentiment of this fine write!

I like the song and the reason for the poem.

Would be nice to stay young in heart and mind forever. Thank you for sharing the outstanding poetry and the song.
