a little girlA Poem by audsperched upon an armchair,
lollipop dangling in a pout. she tugged at a boy's blonde locks then shoved him into a fruit platter. "is that the trouble child?" "yes, the girl with mud stains on her skirt." run, run and hide or go on: trip over pebbles. whirring past garden fences, a blur of spry ardor. twigs snapped, thorns pricked, but she ran, she ran. other kids huddled for a tale, of a prince and princess' marriage. the prince a gentleman, the princess an elegant lady. "mommy, will i grow into woman?" mommy, i'm dreading the day i do. "not if you act like a boy." and with that, settles my mind. the wind blew stronger against her feet as she pelted towards a shallow pond. bushes of green rumbled to the little girl's wails. © 2022 auds |
