Chapter Thirteen

A Chapter by Aekmy

 Gerard P.O.V

“Gerard.” Ava murmured from the couch. She was laying there with no apparent look on her face, body set across the perfect couch, lips moving swiftly, and her pale face sort of glowed in the one lamp lit room.

“I’m right here.” Though I didn’t feel here I really was, I was here comforting a vampire.

“I need to tell you something.” Her voice was raspy, not a ring like as it used to be. Before I spoke I watched her lips move quickly, like she was chanting some song of the dead.

“What, what are you doing?” I finally asked.

“I was singing. Now shush, I have some things to tell you.” She paused but didn’t move. “Gerard, somehow I think I’m dieing. That night when peter injected me he put a chemical in my body that formulates a chemical reaction within my brain to destroy itself. I have no clue what’s happening to me right now. I think I’m sick and I don’t think I will get better.” Finally she moved from her trance and locked my eyes into hers, grabbing my sweaty hand. She sighed and closed her eyes in pleasure from the warmth. It was getting easier to smile at her little fix.

“I miss that. The warmth.”

“I want to know more about you. Tell me everything.” I asked interestedly. Honestly, I really did want to know. Vampires can’t die, she only thinks that, and when she does get better we can go about our merry way and live happily ever after.

“Start from my beginning or the beginning?”

“Just yours.”

“You already know when I was born, when I died, la la la la. Hmmmm. I wanna start back on your voice.” She paused, giving me an ill-behaved grin. “I originally started hearing voices when I heard your first thoughts.”

I cut in. “First thoughts?” she chuckled, “yes your very first thoughts. Of course they were jumbled in some foreign baby lango, but I still loved hearing you. The way I feel for you, Gerard, isn’t like what you may think it is. The way I love you is different then how you love me. It may or may not be stronger or weaker. Anyway, I figured okay the kids just born and I’m forty-nine, I’ll live forever and surely I can wait another twenty years.

I watched you grow up, even your awkward stages, but I won’t mention any.” She chuckled and I didn’t want to think why. “And then I heard you sing.” She paused and closed her eyes, smiling with genuine happiness, revisiting the memory. “You won’t ever know how astonishing you sounded in your earlier days, not saying you don’t sound good now, but…anyway. Once I figured out where you lived I snuck to your house.” She rolled her eyes at my expression. “Yes you had a stalker and you didn’t know it, but that’s not the point. I watched you every time you practised. I watched you evolve into this magnificent person that I wanted to meet. I watched you make it through the hard times and then I knew you were going to become famous. I could feel it in my cold heart, so I moved here and enrolled in high school. Patiently, oh so serenely, I waited for you to come back home and play in our state so I could lure you in the shadows and have every bit of you I wanted, but I didn’t have to and I couldn’t. I think even though I wasn’t really all vampire back then the monster was still lurking in my veins, trying to change me, evolve me into what it wanted. To get what it wanted.” Suddenly she stopped and swallowed.

“Different subject?” I asked worriedly.

“I’m afraid so.”

“Okay, you said something about our love being different. How does that work exactly?”

“Well, like I said, I don’t really know. All I know is that my love for you, the way I look at you, my affection, it isn’t human of course, but I just know it’s different. Vampires aren’t human you know that. Our emotions are different as well. I don’t feel jealousy, hurt, ECT. I’ve read about it in a thousand books, seen in it many plays, but I’ve never actually felt it. Not even now, but I do love you.” Finally she sat up, but the pain on her face didn’t look unreal. She groaned and grabbed a rib, but waved off my floating hand ready to comfort within a seconds glance.

I decided to try to distract her. “Besides that one dude have you ever met another one of you?” her face smoothed out as the question rolled over her tongue.

“No,” she looked down sadly. “I’ve never met another vampire other than Nigel and once the process was done he left me, left me to suffer through everything alone.” Her eyes smouldered into anger.

“Okay, I have another question about your mind reading thing. How does that work?”

“Well, I don’t know. It just happens and I don’t read minds,” she pointed out. “I only hear peoples thoughts and only the ones they are thinking at that moment.” I sighed, feeling the weight of all the information crashing down on me. She laughed at my bewilderment.

“It’ll all sink in with time.” She took my warm hand and tried to suppress her sigh. Now I laughed at her.

“You’re so adorable.”

“Only to you.” She grinned at me and squeezed my hand. A connection of something crossed the little space between us.

Lucidly, I pressed a cold ear to her chest and she gasped, but I didn’t hear a heart beat or the sound of air filling her lungs. I leaned up quickly, scared, and looked at her worried eyes.
