Chapter ThreeA Chapter by AekmyAwwe chapter 3! ; )I woke up around ten with a horrible head ace. When I turned over my father was standing beside my bed with my guitar in his hand. I gasped and took it from him. “Get out.” I pulled my pants on under the sheets and sat my guitar in its case by the window.
“Where were you last night?”
“Outside.” Downstairs I heard noises in the kitchen.
“You are very lucky. We will talk about this later.” He turned and ran to the kitchen upstairs. I wished I had Gerard. He would’ve stopped my dad. This was getting really old. I pulled on a pair of skinny jeans and a white shirt with sleeves that came to my elbows. It was my favorite because of the little slit on the neck. I headed up stairs. My mother and father had sat down to eat. I grabbed a bowl, filled it with Captain Crunch and sat by my mom.
“Good morning, honey.” She was careful not to call me Joey around dad.
“Hey mom, are we going today?”
“Oh yes, right after we eat.” She smiled brightly.
“Where are we going?” my dad looked angry.
“Candice needs a phone so I told her yesterday that I would get her one today.”
“Why does she need a phone?”
“Oh Paul, Candice is fourteen. She needs a phone so she can keep in touch with people.”
“I guess that makes sense, but we aren’t getting anything expensive. She doesn’t need it.”
“Mom, do you mind if I bring someone along?” I cringed; my father looked at me then my mother.
“Yes, who is it?” she ignored dad altogether. Go mom!
“You remember Gerard, right? I was wondering if he could come with us. Please!” she started laughing.
“Of course he can come. Run down there and make sure he eats before he comes.” She yelled after me as I was running through the door, grabbing my coat on the way out. I couldn’t believe I was going to see Gerard again. I was so happy.
I knocked on the door and waited. Mikey answered.
“Hey mikey.”
“Yo, Candice.” He was still in his pajamas.
“Is um Gerard there?”
“Nah, he’s out with his girlfriend.”
“What?”
“I’m just joking. He’s still asleep. You can go wake him up if you like. I know you guys have something special.” His eyes glittered as he closed the door and nudged my side.
“Oh shut up. You know I’ve been known for kicking guys in the balls? Another stunt like that and girls will be laughing at you and your flattened-to-no-existent balls. Especially me.” I grinned and he backed up.
I found Gerard’s room easily. The door was cracked so I opened it and closed it again. I walked over to the side of his bed and pulled a chair with me and sat. I ran my fingers over his forehead and brushed his hair back. He was so cute when he slept. I expected him to make noises, but he didn’t. Maybe I wouldn’t wake him up. He probably would be mad though if he figured out I came over and didn’t take him along with me.
“Candice.” He mumbled in his sleep. Oh wow, he was dreaming about me or Candice. Whichever.
“No don’t leave.” He mumbled again. His hand reached out on front of him. I had to move so he wouldn’t grab my face. Do I wake him up or enjoy the show? It was a hard decision to make, but I decided to wake him up. I kissed his lips lightly and searched around in his mouth, with my tongue. I hadn’t ever done that before, but he seemed to enjoy it. His eyes popped open.
“Morning sleepy head.” I ran my hands through his hair again and smiled.
“God, you scared me.” He rubbed his eyes and sat up a little in the bed.
“I could have jumped on you and woken you up. That would’ve been funny.”
“No, no that was okay. If only I could wake up like that every morning now that would be a great way to start off the day.” He grinned my favorite grin.
“My mother is taking me to get a cell phone. I wanted to know if you would like to come along.”
“Well of course. Who let you in?”
“Mikey.”
“Oh, well remind me not to kick him the next time he makes me mad.” We both chuckled.
“My mom also said you had to eat before you came over.”
“That won’t be a problem.” His stomach growled in agreement. I laughed and got up and found his closet. He had a LOT of black.
“I love your clothes.” I pulled out a black, red skulled tie and smiled.
“Here.” He came over and tied it around my neck.
“I can wear it?”
“Of course.” I glance at his clothes. He was still in the same ones from last night.
“What will you wear? Hmm, your choices are black, black, and remarkably black. Which one will it be?” he wrapped his arms around my waist and swayed slightly.
“Um how about the second one.” He laughed and pulled out black pants, a button up jacket, blue shirt, and last a black cabby hat. He ran off to change. While he was doing that I ran through his dresser drawers. He had TONS of accessories. I danced around in his mirror for a minute and jumped when he came out. He was so cute.
“What are you doing?” he laughed and undressed all of his ties from my neck except a blue one with a giraffe smiling towards a little bird in the sky.
“I like that one on you.”
“You would like me in dish rags.” I scoffed.
“It wouldn’t really highlight your curves very well, but yeah.”
“Hurry up and eat!” I yelled, playing. He walked out in front of me and I kicked his butt.
“Whoa!” he covered it up in the hallway.
“Oh pish posh. You’ll get over it.” I laughed quieter when we entered the living room. Mikey was sprawled over the couch, still awake and listening to us.
“Aw don’t you two look cute.”
“What did I tell you mikey?” I warned.
“What did you tell him?” Gerard looked back at me, confused.
“That if he made fun of me I was going to flatten his balls.”
“And how the hell were you going to do that?” Gerard picked out a bowl and got some cereal.
“Oh Gerard, I was going to kick him. Jeeze.” I threw my hands up. He kissed me quickly, no doubt showing off.
“Yeah so I shut up real quick.” Mikey butted in and ran up to put his arm around my shoulder. It was all rood fun.
“That’s probably good mikey. No telling what she’ll do.”
“Aw did I scare you that bad earlier?”
“Of course not.” He grinned and jumped into his cereal.
When he was finally done I pulled him out the door and into the street. I was glad my parents didn’t know where he lived so we could kiss and hug before we got there.
“So what happened to you last night?” I asked. He laughed at me because he knew I knew.
“Actually the guys and I were talking about something.”
“What is it?” I put my arm around his waist and he put his around my shoulder to pull me closer.
“We think we’re going to form a band.”
“That’s awesome! Did you know I actually play electric?” he glanced down at me.
“Are you serious? And this is the first time I have heard this. Why not sooner?”
“I didn’t know you played anything.”
“Well I’ll be singing, not playing anything.”
“Aw you can sing?” that sounded so like him. Singing, uh huh.
“I guess we’ll figure out.” I stopped him and reached up on my tippy-toes to kiss him. He brought me closer and kissed me back.
“You’re adorable.” He smiled sweetly at me. How did I get so lucky?
“Why thank you.” We both laughed and continued walking hand in hand.
“You know you’re going to have to keep your hands off of me around my parents’, right?” he looked down, disappointed.
“Only as long as you come over later.” He laughed and nudged my side with his elbow; well it was actually kind of my shoulder since he was so tall.
“We’ll see.” I looked forward. Gerard reached to brush back my hair, but he hit the bruise on my head and I did something very stupid. Everything was going great.
Gerard’s P.O.V
Joey let out one of those blood curtailing screams after I brushed back her hair.
“Joey?!” I screeched, she was holding the side of her head and inching toward the ground. She whimpered quietly.
“I’m okay.” She whispered and squeezed back her tears.
“What happened?” I pulled her into a hug on the ground.
“He hit me with my guitar this morning.” She started crying on my shoulder.
“Why?? God that must have hurt.” I nearly screeched in protest.
“I don’t know. I’m sorry.” She whipped her tears again and breathed in deeply through her nose.
“Sorry for what?” I tilted her head up with my fingers and looked into her blue eyes.
“Being the way I am. If I didn’t have a father like this I wouldn’t scare you all the time and if I looked better you would have a better time with me.” She trailed off. This was nonsense.
“I like you the way you are. Never forget that.” I kissed her before she could protest. I could tell she was tired though because she didn’t put much power into it. I took her hand and pulled her up. She leaned into me the whole way.
“What’s our excuse?” she whispered after she smiled at her wide eyed dad and a fake wave.
“You tripped.”
“Hello, Mr. Parker.” Joey pretended to hop beside me.
“What happened here?” he pointed to my hand wrapped all the way around Joey and my fingers intertwined in her belt loop.
“She tripped.”
“Well I guess we can’t go shopping then.” What an a*s.
“Wait what are we going to get again?” I asked, looking at Joey’s nearly frantic face.
“A cell phone, smarty. I already told you.” She ‘stretched’ her foot out and walked around on it.
“I think it looks fine,” Mrs. Parker announced. “Everyone in the car, you two in the back.” I still wrapped my arms around Joey and helped her to the car. She fell in and giggled with a broad smile on her face. She could play it up well.
When we were at the Verizon store Joey and I ran through the doors. She stopped and started tip-toeing in, putting her fingers to her perfect little lips. She laughed and then we got to work. She liked a whole bunch, but the flip phone interested her the most. It was black, of course. Mr. Parker had his eyes on us the whole time. Well, actually mostly Joey. He watched every move she made, the way she shifted her feet, every time she flipped her hair back, and even when she put her hand in her back pocket! If I wasn’t mistaken I think he was hitting on his own step daughter.
“I want this one!” she yelled loud enough for the whole story to hear.
“Nicely done spider monkey.” I pretended to laugh nervously.
“Oops.” She giggled and covered her mouth.
“Which one honey?” Mrs. Parker came over and inspected the phone. Mrs. Parker is definitely where Joey got her looks from. The nose and everything was dead on.
“I don’t like it Diana.” Mr. Parker came up behind Mrs. Parker and rested his hands on her hips. The way he did was a little possessive, like she was his and no one else could have her.
“Why not Paul it looks fine.” She protested. The way she pushed her lip out made me think of Joe.
“It has a camera on it. She could send pictures of herself on the internet and send them to all of her friends.” He gave me a dirty look when he said friends.
“Dad! I am so not going to do that! God, you treat me like I’m a w***e! That has got to stop.” Whoa Joey let him have it. The look in her fathers’ eye sent me to Joey’s shoulders.
“You won’t ever speak to me like that again,” Mrs. Parker cut him off.
“We are getting her this one.” She walked off and left us alone with him.
“Because you won’t have a tongue to talk with.” I heard him whisper in her ear before a glance at me and then he walked off. Joey just stared forward. I walked in front of her.
“It is going to be alright. I won’t let him hurt you.”
“What if he hurts you?” she squeaked.
“If he does he better make sure he knocks me out.” I tried to make her laugh and she did, only a little though. He parents went through all of the paper work and Joey and I sat outside.
Joey’s P.O.V
Gerard and I sat outside on the sidewalk.
“I’m sorry I dragged you into this.” I stared forward.
“Into what?” he seemed exasperated.
“My life.”
“You have got to quit that. The whole my life makes people hate me thing. Really I love the way you are. If you were different I wouldn’t like you the way I do.”
“But it’s true Gerard. Haven’t you noticed I don’t have that many friends?”
“Do I?” he pointed to himself.
“Yes, you have Mikey, Frank, and Ray.” He slapped his forehead, dragging his fingers along his face.
“Look I’m sorry. Do you forgive me?” I laid my head in his lap.
“Of course I do.” He had started to rub my head.
“Be careful.”
“Where is it?” he started poking around in my hair. I hissed.
“Found it. Okay I’ll stay clear of that part.” He rubbed the other side of my head until I had basically fallen asleep. My father followed my mother out of the store.
“Aw Candy are you sleepy, honey?” my mother kneeled down and rubbed my hair. When she did she gasped.
“Oh my gosh what happened?” she started inspecting my forehead.
“I must’ve run into the door frame again.” My father smiled at my cover up and Gerard gave him a look.
“You have got to be more careful. That looks awful. Keep it covered up. People are going to think we hit you or something stupid like that. Any way, here is your very first phone.” In her palm was the black flip phone I had picked out and she was smiling.
“Thank you!” I screeched and leaned on Gerard’s shoulder. My mother looked at us with those eyes. Great. The ones that say ‘aw, my baby has a boyfriend’, but we weren’t actually going out.
“What is your house number oh and your cell number?” I turned to Gerard. Before we got too deep into conversation my mother took my shoulder.
“Do you two just wanna walk home? It isn’t that far and I’m sure you can get her home right, Gerard?”
“Of course. I’ve lived here awhile. I know my way around.” He smiled at her, looked at my father and triumphantly put his arm around my shoulder. Ugh. Men.
Gerard’s P.O.V
“Hey, mom, here’s my number.” Joey stood up and I held on to her calf. Her mother took her number and wrote it down.
“You two have some fun. Walk around if you have too. It’s only two o’clock.” She kissed Joey’s cheek and patted my knee. I reached out and shook her cold hand. She smiled back at me and jumped straight into Mr. Parker’s arms. He gave both of us a look and then drove off. Joey shook her head and lost her balance. With one hand on her butt and the other under her knee, I caught her in my lap.
“Oh gosh! I’m so sorry.” She giggled freely and wrapped her arm around my neck. I squeezed my hand under her knee and put my other hand on her hip.
“I forgive you.” I whispered, chuckled and then French kissed her. She loved it. By the time we were ‘done’ she was in my lap still, but with her legs around my sides.
“I have to breathe.” She sat back on my knees and breathed deeply.
“That is really going to get annoying.” I leaned against the brick wall of the store.
“Hey so what’s your number. You got me side tracked.” She pulled out her phone and pushed a few buttons.
“I wouldn’t mind distracting you again.”
“C’mon Gerard give me your number so I can txt you. My mom gave me unlimited. She just txted me.”
“Gah, okay fine. It’s 239-0578.” She mumbled the numbers to herself as she punched them in. after a minute or two my phone was vibrating in my back pocket and Joey was giggling. I opened up my phone. A message from 898-4253 had popped up. I saved her number and opened the txt. She said “I am starving. Feed ME!!!”
“What about pizza?” I asked her, aloud.
“Aw you party pooper. Wait I need a picture of you for my contacts.” I sighed and made a kissy face for her. The camera flashed. She giggled and saved it.
“What? Is it that bad?” I tried to look at her phone.
“Oh no, you’re adorable.” She smiled and licked her lip, then leaned against my shoulder. She had her phone pointed towards us so I kissed her cheek.
“Better?”
“Aw. Thank you!” she hugged me and saved it as her wallpaper.
“You were hungry remember?” she looked at me and then remembered.
“Oh yeah. Pizza here we come!” she pointed towards the sky and pulled me along by the hand to the Pizza Shoppe. Once we were done she laid her head on the table.
“Is your sugar rush over?” I asked while brushing her hair.
“I have no idea what that was. I’m so tired. Gerard I don’t know if I can walk.”
“I can carry you.”
“How about we just like sneak off to your house so I don’t have to go home.”
“I like that idea. So am I kidnapping you?” before she could answer I threw away all of our trash and refilled our coke. When I came back Joey wasn’t moving at all, she had fallen asleep on the table.
“Gerard, don’t, no!” she screamed and woke up when she did.
“Bad dream?” I peered at her threw my falling hair and helped her up.
“Oh yea. This was even worse.” We walked through the doors and out into the street. I held on to her by her belt loop and she held on to me by my waist.
“You mean you’ve had others?” this is interesting. I could have sworn I’d dreamt of her last night…or maybe it was this morning.
“Yeah I think it was right after I met you. Yeah it was, I had this horrible nightmare.” She shivered, but I couldn’t tell if it was from the cold or her dream.
“What was it about?”
“You were asking me to come with you, but the way it looked like you were going to go was really bright. Finally, you pulled me into the light and when it hit my skin it burned. It was odd and very vivid. I could feel you tugging on my sleeve and the burns on my arms.” She shuttered and closed her eyes.
“It’s okay you don’t have to talk about it anymore.” I patted her arm.
“So what are we going to do when we get to your house?” she poked me in the ribs and I jumped and then laughed.
Joey’s P.O.V
I was pooped. All of this walking around and crap had worn me out.
“So what are we doing when we get to your house?” I poked his side and he jumped. I giggled.
“I don’t know. You could meet the other guys or we could do something together.” Gerard was so predictable at times.
“How about we do a bit of both.” I offered. It was time I got to meet all of the other hooligans.
