Dust

Dust

A Poem by Ady Dost

After the fracture,

After she broke,

What was left was a girl

With scars on her wrists,

Tears in her eyes,

And a quiver in her lips.

She didn’t know where to put her hands,

Didn’t know how to sit,

Didn’t know where to stand,

Could only do a little bit.

It took all of her energy

To stay strong at school,

But when she got home

She just broke again and again.

I know what you’re thinking,

How can someone broken keep breaking?

Well, my dear friend,

Once a thing breaks in half,

It can break into smaller pieces

Until there is nothing left

Except dust.

My guess is that you're young and seeing things with fresh eyes, but also with profound experience that belies your age. The world can hurt you and crush you, but it can also be beautiful, and anyway it's all we got. Keep expressing yourself; art can make it all worthwhile.
