Opinion on the Survival of the Human Species.
What I had previously written concerning the differences between the sexes were observations of extremes and cultural biasness. They were hyperbolized intentionally in order to be humorous. Any truth to these observations come about because of the human tendency to generalize. Having said that, I’ll further plunge into generalities by sharing why I believe that women’s contribution to our survival has been for the most under-rated in its most valuable asset.
In truth and in nature, the female of any species has the most invested in the preservation of the offspring then in the males. They contribute the ovum from which the next generation will arise and provide the means by which that offspring is nourished and nurtured.
By that reason alone, there is an incentive for women to have the tendency to be the "peacemakers" most of the time. If they were otherwise, all that a woman would have worked for to preserve would be at risk (where as in males, the general rule is to pass on as much of your own genes into the next generation by knocking the competition out of the game). This is why women have a stronger instinct to fight and protect more vigorously for their children then men.
I am not trying to de-humanize people by making these general statements (and they are very general applying to the great scope of life on this planet). But, as a species that has evolved from the same stock of all life, we Humans have to obey the same evolutionary rules and utilize the same survival strategies.
Now, here's the question; what happens when society and social order attempts to manipulate and control nature? What happens when competition among males reaches such ridiculous proportions as to disturb the equilibrium that preserves us? In other words, what if a skewed reality where fighting to dominate takes precedence over the innate capability to preserve?
My opinion is that this is the way to extinction.
But, before you start thinking me a cynic and a pessimist remember this; the reason why all Humans share the same genes with very little variation is that at one point we were a small insignificant group whose population quickly expanded and spread. It was our ability to overcome adversity using our large brains and the capacity to care for others above our own individuality that helped us survive. Even if war, disease, famine, or any natural disaster were to wipe out the majority of Humanity a few survivors would be able to preserve our species. Their success, though, will depend upon whether they continue the trend for intercine conflict, or altruism.
If there is one thing I've learned about nature it is that bad and inadaptable strategies tend to die out while those that helps survival of the species are passed on.
My bet is on the human innate ability to be unselfish.
